The elegant Baroque architecture and snow-white exterior are the features of this historic building built under Japanese colonial rule. In 1905, the Japanese government constructed Magong Office on the current location, and it was under the supervision of Kaohsiung Customs.
It has an arched gate and colonnades as well as a square building at the corner to look out over Magong Port. The vaulted windows and European-style pitched roofs indicate that European architecture was popular among the Japanese at that time. The main building material is reinforced concrete and load-bearing walls are used as the main structure of the building. The pitched roofs are laid with black cement roof tiles. In addition to the colonnade porch, the arched windows were designed for people coming to the office for the services. Vaulted windows and keystones are decorating the exterior of the building. Inclined columns are connected to the beams to reinforce the structure. In addition, scrolled capitals are used to decorate the exterior columns. The façade originally had a terrazzo surface and then was repainted with cement paint after the retrocession of Taiwan. This building was the first official building with the Western-style in the Japanese colonial rule.
Lights are mounted around Today’s Magong Office. While passing by it at night, we can feel its elegance, refinement and spirit of antiquity through the lighting.
