The Shanshi Crag is located at the border between the Erkan Settlement of Xiyu Township and the Daguoye (behind the Daguoye stone column). Spectacular columnar basalts (the volcanic rocks formed after cooling of the volcanic lava) stand around the area. Since the road toward the Shanshi Crag zigzags and is not quite visible, the place is also called Mysterious Shanshi Crag.
After passing through an unpaved trail and a zigzag road, tourists can see the gorgeous basalt crag in an inverted U form at about 3-story or 4-story building height.
The rigid basalt columns stand erect there. The ponds in front of the crag reflect the columns' inverted images that extend the spectacularity of this natural landscape.
