The Seaweed Reef is located on the northwest coast of Jhuwan Village and contains many special terrain features. In addition to the wave-cut ditch and wave-cut platform, the magnificent basaltic rock pillars, as well as the north and south facing long reefs, are the main features of the area. The reefs are deeply rooted into the sea and are rich with seaweed all year round due to the wave splashes. That is why the area is called the Seaweed Reef. It is a natural seaweed production area in Jhuwan.
The seaweed harvested at the Seaweed Reef of Jhuwan is publicly owned, and the harvesting right is open to the highest public bidder during September of each year. The harvesting period is from the bid winning date in September until April of next year. During the harvesting period, villagers who did not win the bid can harvest seaweed for fishing bait, but cannot take the seaweed home. The seaweed harvesting right belongs to the bid winner.
Wild seaweed grows on the reefs washed by the tides of the sea, and the breeding season is during the cold winter. The quality is deeply affected by the climate, and the best seaweed growing environments are wave-cut platforms with a lot of wave splashes and little sunshine. The ancient books recorded that "huge waves yield abundant harvest, and small waves yield little harvest", which is the portrayal of wild seaweed growth.
Jhuwan Seawead Reef is a private attraction of the local people and is quite secret. On the way to Xiaomen Village, a branch road appears at approximately 200 meters from Xiaomen Bridge. Follow the winding path along the ranch to reach Jhuwan Seawead Reef.
