Baikeng Village, Huxi Township, Penghu County
Glossogyne tenuifolia is the most famous agricultural product of Baikeng Village. It is harvested three or four times every year and Baikeng Village has the highest production volume of glossogyne tenuifolia in Penghu. Aloe is another crop in this area. There is a sandy breach at Huxi Baikeng Village. Located to the northeast of Husi, the beach is full of coral fragments. It is rarely known by people and thus is especially quiet and mysterious.
The islands on the East China Sea are faintly visible from Baikeng Beach on sunny days. The Kuibi Hill is on the right side and Qingluo is on the east side of Baikeng Beach. Ipomoea imperati bloom fully on the beach on the side of the embankment. The tender flowers are in contrast with the white beach to form a special scene under the sunshine.
Coral limestone fragments and shells are the specialties of Baikeng Village, and these are the major raw materials for lime. With this, Baikeng Village was ever the “most important place of lime kiln industry”. However, the sales of lime dropped significantly and the lime kiln industry became a sunset industry when the cement industry rose. Lime kilns have further declined with the increased awareness of environmental protection and change of times.
Because of these changes, Baikeng Village can present the most natural scenery in Penghu.
