The former organization of the Marine Life Propagation Station was the Algae Propagation Center, Penghu County, established in 1969 with the purpose of promoting the cultivation of lavers in Penghu County. The Marine Life Propagation, Penghu County, was established in 1988. It was then expanded in 2011 with the “Larva Production and Marine Ecology Education Building” and peripheral facilities. The first floor of the building is used for the production of larvae. Tourists may visit on the second floor, and an office and a viewing platform are set up on the third floor. Overall, the building is to breed, cultivate and release sea fishes, shrimps, crabs, lavers and abalones in the hope of increasing local aquatic resources and promote the development of the aquaculture in Penghu County.
On the second floor, a passageway of 108 meters in length shows the cultivation of corals and an aquarium. This floor is open to the public and students. A tour guide will give a talk and brief introduction to visitors along the passageway, helping them understand the cultivation of
larvae and the awareness of marine ecology and preservation. The Station faces a bay on the west nearby the Pengnan Shili Community and a viewing platform is set up outside the office area on the third floor. Tourists may take a rest and enjoy the distance view.
The Marine Life Propagation Station, Penghu County, is responsible for hatching, cultivation and releasing aquatic larvae. The current cultivation of larvae is described below:
1 Fish cultivation: yellow seabream, red seabream, black seabream, grouper, sand snapper, sergeant fish, and pig fish
