Fisherman's Wharf was formerly known as Magong Second Fishing Harbor. It was full of fishing boats and ice plants with the presence of oily and fishy odors and fishing gear and ice maker motors were placed untidily. In recent years, through the overall planning and renovation of the county government, this place has become a coastal redevelopment area with local industrial features and great potential. It is even a popular place for the locals to take a walk as well as one of the must-see attractions in Penghu. Fisherman's Wharf includes a shopping and performance area in Star of Gaillardia Island and a recreational area in Painted Oil Drum. A boardwalk is built on the wharf and wooden tables and chairs are placed by the port.
Star of Gaillardia Island is a large building constructed with reinforced concrete by the Penghu Fishermen's Association, costing NT$120 million. The 3-story building looks like a cruise ship and is used as the venue for the seafood market managed by the Association. There are aquatic products, dried food, souvenirs, handicrafts, etc. on the 1st floor; seafood restaurants on the 2nd floor; and ship facilities for visitors to take photos on the 3rd floor.
Through redevelopment and transformation, the harbor area successfully becomes a coastal redevelopment district in consideration of fishery and tourism industries. While taking a leisurely walk along the coastal boardwalk at night, we can enjoy the nighttime lighting and the scenery different from that in the daytime.
