The Museum is located at the Matouwan on the south of Jibeiyu. It is established to preserve traditional stone weir culture. The Museum is built in the Jibei Visitor Center on its east side. It is a private but unconventional culture museum. The purpose of the Museum is to gather the stone weir culture of Jibeiyu and promote stone weir ecology and landscape.
Stone weirs are one of the cultural features combining the shelving and fishing industry. They are deployed all over the Penghu Archipelago. Stone weirs have similar structures comprising of a “weir” for gathering of fish and two “legs” on both sides to guide fish to the weir. The “legs” are designed with a special “rolled tail” with reference to the habitual swimming behavior of the fish to ensure that fish can swim in and cannot swim out. Stone weirs reflect the wisdom of ancient fishermen.
The Museum has an area of about 99 square meters and provides static exhibitions and multi-media videos. The tools that villagers needed for agriculture, fishing and herding in early days are exhibited. More than 100 devices including large and small pots and acetylene lamps are displayed here. Dummies simulating patrol of the stone weirs and some scrolls for rubbing prints are set up here. In the exhibition room, visitors can see the structures and repairs of the stone weirs as well as the fishing method. Narration services are provided on the hour to help visitors understand more about the traditional fishing method with stone weirs
