Address:
Dachang Vil., Paisha Township, Penghu County
Located in the center of Penghu, Dachangyu is surrounded by Penghu’s main island, Paisha Island and Yuwongdao and thus received a title as “Pearl of the Inland Sea.” Dachangyu is a second-class offshore island that can be traveled entirely on foot or by bike.
The overall terrain of the island is high in the north and low in the south. The east and the north sides have steep basalt cliffs, while the southwest is a gradual slope descending to the sea. The whole island is encircled by the intertidal zone and the abrasion platform. The Guanyinting in Magong, the Jhongtun windmills in Paisha, and Cross-Sea Bridge in Xiyu are all viewable scenery from Dachangyu. Visitors can also head to the west of Dachang Port and play water on the beach, which is another must-visit attraction composed of creamy-white shells and sands unique in Penghu Archipelago.
There is a large abrasion platform around the island. As there is a huge difference between the area during the ebb tide and that during the flood tide, the place is a rich marine resource of the intertidal zone, providing visitors with opportunities to catch fish and crabs.
The residents on Dachangyu live a simple life, with all of the livelihood products they need to be transported only from Magong Island. Dacang Elementary School was abandoned in August 2005. Now, the island is closely connected to Magong Island in terms of education and daily life.
