The Yuanyang Caves is a site with geological and historical values. The east-west valley also makes it an excellent coastal fishing site.
The river valley is characterized by shallow water wells. Some of them became natural air-raid shelters for the local residents. The local residents had also dug a number of manmade shelters, but most of them did not survive the forces of time and nature.
The Yuanyang Caves are surrounded by a stretch of pure and serene beach, and the Maanshanyu (Horse Saddle Island) guards the area in the sea at a distance of 600 meters.
The bunker caves hidden in the Yuanyang Caves are historic remains dug by residents of Wang-an and Jiangjun Islands, who were slave laborers called upon by the Japanese military during World War II. These caves served as parking shelters for the torpedo boats
and bedrooms for the motorboat crew. This project was nearly completed when Imperial Japan announced surrender. Most of the bunkers were abandoned and have collapsed, with only partial remains surviving till today.
