At the coast on the south of Gouye Village, Huxi Township, Penghu County
The Gouye Lime Kiln is located on a small tableland nearby the embarkment at the Gouye Village. Drab basalt masses expose from the stripped topsoil of the tableland. The lime kiln left at the Gouye Village is the most complete lime kiln relics in Penghu.
Lime kilns represent one of the most traditional industries in Penghu. The lime kiln industry declined as society changed. The lime kilns of the Gouye Village are preserved quite well. They witness the production process and method of oyster shell and coral fragments in Penghu, and are very important in the history.
Basalt is the major raw material to build the Gouye lime kiln. The unique building technique attracts many tourists to visit the kiln. The kiln was repaired by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Penghu County, in 2015.
The Gouye lime kiln is the most fantastic one among the lime kiln relics in Penghu County. It is unique and has historical value.
The Gouye Lime Kiln is adjacent to the Gouye Sunrise Viewing Platform and Longmen. Tourists can see the stone weirs from the coast.
