Shanshuei Beach, extending to over 200 meters, provides a great relaxing view of boundless blue and white. The long golden beach of Shanshuei is decked by a great number of green ipomoea imperati, and the crystal-clear seawater of Shanshuei Beach shines brilliantly when the sun glints on the surface.
While people come to play in the water, somewhere near the embankment stand two old, low houses with simple gray hues that are horizontal. They are an impressive contrast to the nearby buildings with modern appearance and thus seem to be conspicuous and special. The old houses do not have a gorgeous look, but apparently, that makes them even more intriguing and meaningful. They are Shanshuei Historical Houses, having been built for nearly a hundred years so far. It is said that the houses were built by the three brothers who were the villagers of Shanshuei Village. There were three houses in the past, but one of them was rebuilt into a tin house and is lived by people still now whereas the other two are empty houses.
The bottom half of the back of Shanshuei Historical Houses is based on rubble stones, while the top half is based on a mixture of coral stones and cement plaster. The corners of the houses were built according to stretcher bond brickwork, which makes the house look stronger, and tiles with patterns were inlaid. Unfortunately, some parts have collapsed as no one lives in the houses and maintains them. These historical houses face the Shanshuei Beach, which must have provided a wonderful view during the days when the embankment has not been built yet.
