Jibei Island, sitting 5.5km north of Paisha Island, is the biggest island in the North Sea of Penghu and also a popular spot for water activities in summer. The height of the eastern area of the island is relatively high, while the height of the western area is lower. The beach and the sand tail are marine depositional landforms as well as the most famous natural landscapes of the island.
With the currents, waves and tides that erode the shore for years, the detritus and gravels have been brought to other places and accumulated into the beach, Jibei Sand Tail, which stretches outward for thousands of meters. Jibei Sand Tail is filled with golden sands, and it not only adjoins the blue sea but also neighbors the green maritime plants, providing a marvelous scenery. When looking down from above, one can see the gradient color of the sea from light blue to dark blue as well as the long golden beach set off by the seawater. Water lovers are attracted to Jibei Sand Tail to enjoy and relax.
Jibei Island is also home to stone weirs. There are more than eighty stone weirs in varying sizes around the island for trapping fish, which is one-seventh of the total number of stone weirs in Penghu County. Beside the visitor information center, there is Jibei Stone Weir Cultural Museum, which is divided into the outdoor stone weir art zone and the indoor exhibition area to display Jibei’s stone weir culture in different forms. Welcome to take a look in the museum and enrich your journey if you come to Jibei Island!
