Shanshui Wetland, developed as an education park, won the 2012 FIABCI Real Estate Excellence Award for the Environmental (Rehabilitation/Conservation) Category.
A rock inscribed as “Shanshui Wetland Park” set up by the County Government stands at the entrance. Shanshui Wetland Park is home to a range of sand binding plants, including the sea urchin look-alike spinifex (Spinifex littoreus).
This 1.7 hectare wetland park is located at on the west side of Shanshui Community. An “invisible dike” was built by covering the two sides of the slow descending dike with soil and green plants, which serves as a buffer zone to link the wetland areas inside
and outside of the dike. This design effectively merges aquatic, wetland and xerophytic plants into a landscape of wetland ecology.
The wetland landscape outside of the dike and the vast beach is the most characteristic scenery in the Shanshui area of Penghu. This area is a highly popular perching grounds for migratory birds during the winter.
Shanshui Wetland Park is highly accessible through the boardwalk and view terraces, which leads you through not only the habitats of animals and plants, but also intriguing views of the sea, birds and sunset. This wetland park is also linked to Shanshui 30
Plateau Park.
