The Confucius Temple in Penghu is formerly Wenshih Academy, the earliest place where the culture developed in Penghu. Sitting in the eastern suburb of Magong City, this temple was built by the 18th Penghu Magistrate Chien-wei Hu in the 31st year of the Qianlong reign in the Qing dynasty. As Penghu is abundant in a kind of beautiful stone called wenshih, the academy was given this name in the hope that students from here can shine like this kind of stone.
