A green building with a blue Chunghwa Telecom logo stood near Magong Port and was formerly called Magong Common Post Office. The Japanese government established it in 1924 to offer postal services in Penghu.
Penghu Post Office was built in Taisho 13 (1924) and renamed “Penghu Common Post Office” after the separation of postal and telegraph services in Showa 17 (1942).In August 1946, it merged with the telecommunications office and the name was changed to Penghu Post and Telecommunications Office. The postal and telegraph services were again separated in May 1949 and the Office was renamed Penghu Post Office to solely offer postal services. The location of the telecommunications office remained the same.
The building is characterized by a Japanese architect's blend of “Japanese and Western styles” because “Western buildings” were in vogue then. The building has an L-shaped layout, and the entrance gate is at the corner of the building. The “two-slope” design is used for the roofs of the main buildings and the roof of the gate is a “jerkinhead roof”. These roofs are laid with traditional Japanese concrete tiles, and the shape is exactly like a Japanese samurai helmet. The symmetrical arrangement of three windows on the gate is one of the typical characteristics of Baroque architecture.
