Jibei Vil., Paisha Township, Penghu County
The village is mainly located in the south of Jibei and developed in northerly, easterly and westerly directions from the port. Houses mostly lie in the area from Guanyin Temple to Wusheng Temple that leads straight to the old port area. Jibei Village is divided into the east area and the west area, with the boundary between them defined by Wusheng Temple. The surnames of people in the east area are mainly “Chen” and “Hsieh,” while the one in the west is mainly “Chuang.” Built in the 7th year of the Yongli reign in the Ming dynasty (1652), Wusheng Temple, also known as the East Temple, is the center of religion for Jibei residents. Guanyin Temple was built in the 7th year of the Daoguang reign in the Qing dynasty (1827), and is also called the West Temple. In addition to these two temples, there are also Fude Temple, Dajiangye Temple and several Youyinggong temples.
Houses in Jibei are built mainly based on local materials, with neatly cut coral stones, basalts and slates used and lime mortar greatly applied. The delicately carved beams and rafters and the painted doors enable them to give out a historic atmosphere. Elements from different times and backgrounds are combined and shown in various creative forms on the village houses and even on the windows.
Behind the village are the Caizhais, where hard-working farmers come and look after their vegetables in the early mornings or evenings. When you come to Jibei, besides marine activities, a stroll in the village is another option to consider.
