Penghu Aquarium is situated in Paisha Aquafarm in Paisha Township, Penghu County, which is the former location of the Fisheries Research Institute. The area of the aquarium is 2.5 hectares and the floor space is about 4,600 square feet. Penghu Aquarium is a 2-story building with a maximum momentary capacity of 500 people.
The construction project began in 1993 and took 4 years to complete. The aquarium has been open to tourists who pay admission since April 1998. At that time, it was the first multifunction aquarium combining technology research, social education, tourism and recreation in Taiwan, and the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia.
The exhibition area of Penghu Aquarium is a 2-story building with a total area of 2.5 hectares and floor space of 4,600 square feet. It is characterized by emerald green roof tiles and gray-white walls. There is a lookout pavilion outside of the aquarium where we can look out towards Yuanbeiyu. A basalt pathway lies along the seawall and we can walk straight down the pathway to Gangzih to relax in the shade of banyan trees or to Citou Marine Park and Qitou Wharf to have fun in the intertidal zone. The overall color tone and scenery convey a summery, fresh, leisurely and relaxing atmosphere.
