Waian Village is located at the south side of Xiyu Township, bordering Neian Village at north. Surrounded by hills, this area is shielded from the harsh northeasterly wind.
Waian Village is the most populous community in Xiyu Township. With only a narrow strip of flat ground for development, the houses were built against the hills, looking out to the sea. A large cluster of cascading structures forms a unique yet spectacular
view.
Blessed with perfect geological criteria, Waian is an excellent port for development of fishery. The fishing port here has a large capacity to accommodate large fleets of fishing boats (the village owns the highest number of fishing boats in a single village
in the whole of Penghu). Therefore, most residents here live on the resources of the sea. Waian Fishing Port is a Class 3 port, near the fishing ground of migratory fishes. Fishing activities here are intensive. In 2011, the Village was nominated for the Cultural
Heritage Category of the nation's Top 10 Fishing Harbors. Day and night, the port area is dressed in different glamorous styles.
Is the belief central of the residents. Neighboring the temple is Ci Hang Monastery a Buddhist Monastery enshrining Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Waian Village hosts a Fishing Light Festival every year on Yuan Xiao Day (15th day of the first lunar month). This fun event is a one day fair starting from a parade of the deities during the day and ended with the riddle party and spectacular light-up ceremony
at night. When dusk falls, fishing boats begin to gather around Waian Fishing Port. On the strike of the predetermined auspicious hour, all fishing boats simultaneously light up their fishing lights, and they’re so bright they turn night into day. Flocks of
tourists are attracted to this event every year.
